In 1876 Canada’s government decided that it would be appropriate to make laws for the First nations, however the first nations were not consulted, which was considered to be unfair. This act was known as The Indian act and was originally developed in order to assimilate the First nations. Until 1960 however the First Nations were not given the right to vote.
